So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16 -18

It’s true that we overlook the things that have eternal significance because these are often things that cannot be seen. It’s also true that we spend much of our time chasing after the things that are seen even though such things do not last long and are gone too soon. The thrill of winning something will eventually wear out. The newest fad or possession will lose its appeal next season. Everything that we see now is already passing away. That’s why scripture says: “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts;but whoever does the will of God lives forever” 1 John 2:17

Although all that we have now and experience now is passing away, God is in every single moment and detail. He is connected to us in a way which we cannot even imagine. He knows our thoughts from afar, he knows the number of hairs on our heads and every heart beat our heart makes – nothing goes unnoticed by God. I believe God is freely offering himself to us to enjoy and his promise is that he will outlast everything else in this world.

Lord God, may i learn how to enjoy your presence in every detail of my life. May i seek to acknowledge you are in every second of my life, not because you want to monitor me and not because you are harsh – but because you love me so much. Because you want me to realise how accessible you are and how close you are. Lord, may i learn how accessible is your power, your blessings and your grace – may i be thrilled and be captivated by this over anything else in the world.
