“I have seen another evil under the sun, and it weighs heavily on mankind: God gives some people wealth, possessions and honor, so that they lack nothing their hearts desire, but God does not grant them the ability to enjoy them, and strangers enjoy them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.” Ecclesiastes 6:1-2
We may not think that this verse applies to us because we do not feel rich or feel we lack in many areas, but i think this is also precisely what the verse exposes. We have an innate tendency to look at what we do not have rather than rejoicing in what we do. At the most basic level we have life. And God made us to enjoy this life. For those of us who have health, a roof over our heads and access to daily necessities – how much do we really take the time to enjoy these things? I don’t think i really realize how amazingly blessed i am until i take time to look around myself. And i believe the same goes for so many others. May i do so now, lest i lose the opportunity to do so one day.
Father Lord, thank you for your blessings, your grace and your protection. I am so grateful for all i have to enjoy and look forward to. I so sorry i sometimes fail to see this. Grant me the ability to enjoy them Lord for i do not want to be ungrateful. May i enjoy life the way you intended me to.
