What tomorrow will bring

1 December 2014

A lot of our fears and insecurities come from the fact that we do not know what tomorrow will bring. So we try to prepare for the future. We study hard, work hard, save money and try to stay healthy. As much as we try, we can never fully prepare for tomorrow. But God does know what tomorrow will bring. And best of all, he does have a plan for us to navigate our way around the uncertainty of tomorrow.

Proverbs 27:1 says “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

It is true that a day can change a lot of things. We must acknowledge that God is in control of everything at the end of the day. We can study and work hard, but we do not need to be too anxious or worried because God will determine the outcome. We should be wise with money and save, but we do not need to hoard, because God can and will provide for us and we must remember, he gives and he takes away. So we can be both prudent with money and generous in our giving. We should keep ourselves healthy because the body is the temple of the living God, but we do not need to be obsessed with our appearance or health because we are fearfully and wonderfully made and the Lord God is our healer.
Lord God, may you let these things sink deep into my being. Let me live like this, acknowledging your sovereignty and yet taking responsibility for my own actions and outcome. May i trust in you when i need peace. May i be given courage when i need to act. And may i be disciplined to train myself in all righteousness before you.
