Hebrews 12:11 “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.“
We seldom mention God’s discipline but it is what God does for our own good. Discipline is often thought of as punishment for doing something wrong and some believe that God causes us to feel pain as punishment for what we did wrong.
But I believe the more meaningful way that God disciplines us is through training us by allowing us to go through tough times with his guidance and presence. Our minds wander so easily and lose focus on things that without a constant hand to put us through challenging or strict regimes, we can become soft and blunt. I suffer from this the most after a long holiday and having no work to do for an extended period of time. I lose my sharpness, my concentration, my will power and stamina. So it is with spiritual things i suppose.
Lord Jesus, may i receive your discipline willingly. May i be sharpened by your training in order to keep producing good fruit. Lead me in your ways, as unpleasant or painful as they may seem at times, reminding me always that i have much more to look forward to as a result.
