Tyranny of the urgent

3 November 2014

There are those days when the demands seem more than you can possibly handle. You just don’t know where to start and how to tackle each need. But we keep in mind that there is nothing we have been given which God cannot accomplish through us. This is not to mean that we need to accomplish everything on our plate everyday but we can walk with God through all these demands.

We can seek his guidance in leading us to do what is needed and most important each moment. There may be a million and one things to do in a day, but the Holy Spirit guides us in identifying and guiding us through what is necessary each day. If we walk closely with the Holy Spirit, we will be able to separate the important from the urgent.

Lord God, i believe you gave me enough time to accomplish all that is important in each day you have given me. Help me Holy Spirit to distinguish between what is important from what is simply urgent but not important. Keep me in your peace to transcend the urgency and pressure of accumulated demands. Help me see what it is i need to do each moment every day so that i complete the things you want me to complete. You have ordained the time i have to do everything without falling foul to the tyranny of the urgent.
