Timing of opportunities and events can make a crucial difference in our lives. It can determine where we live, who we marry and what we do with the rest of our lives. Yet this is largely out of our control. We may earnestly seek to improve our future and no doubt, hard work pays off, but some of the biggest things that happen in life may have nothing to do with our efforts.

Some call it the hand of God, some call it destiny. But i know that it is God who determines our steps and there is great comfort in Scripture that this is true:

Proverbs 19:21 “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.”

Proverbs 16:9 “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.

Lord, may i affirm my trust in your good hands. May i affirm my faith in your goodness even if my circumstances may not show for it. May i affirm my peace and joy in knowing that Your purposes for me are always the best and that You will establish my steps day after day.

2 Corinthians 4:16 “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Everything here on earth, our physical bodies, homes, money, status, beauty and health will fade with time, but the joy in our hearts does not have to follow this trend. Our joy comes from the things we do in this body to serve God’s Kingdom. Although Paul was outwardly wasting away his physical strength and time, he kept his faith in knowing his eternal rewards and glory was being built up day after day.

Lord, thank you for reminding me that my physical wealth here can never satisfy or sustain me. No matter who it is, we cannot reverse time and youth, and rather than spending it all on reaping physical wealth here on earth, may i spend time to cultivate and grow eternal wealth in heaven with You. May you give me the eyes and hands to see and meet both the physical and spiritual needs in this life.
