Jesus said “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.“ Matthew 5:13
There were in fact many warnings from Jesus in the bible. These warnings were directed in fact at those who claimed to be his followers. Today, we also claim to follow Christ and the same warning applies to each professing Christian.
Salt is used for preserving, bringing out the taste in food and is also an essential mineral for nourishing life. If we claim to follow Jesus, we should preserve our holiness in Christ. Our righteousness was bought by the blood of Jesus and it is in His righteousness that we are able to stand before God. We are also given the privilege to enhance relationships and bring out the best in people. Faith isn’t lived to oneself, but is an outward expression of love and service. As we do so, we also nourish those around us spiritually and physically. Words of encouragement, praise, patience, grace, mercy and love are all needed to nourish this world we call home.
Lord Jesus, i am the salt of this world, help me so to live out these qualities, to preserve holiness in my life, to enhance the relationships around me, and to nourish those in need and who you bring to me.
