Psalm 143:8 “Cause me to hear Thy lovingkindness in the morning, for in Thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk for I lift up my soul unto Thee.”
King David made a very good point in asking first to know the loving kindness of God. God is many things – He is the source of all wisdom. He is also all knowing. God is all powerful and nothing else is more powerful than God. God is the creator and we know that everything that is was made by God.
But the most important attribute David concentrated on was that God is love. Today we know of and meet all kinds of people. Those who possess a lot of money, power and influence. Brilliant minds who create groundbreaking technology. Wise and intelligent sages. But even in the midst of all these people, do we really trust them? We may be in awe of such people, but it does not mean they automatically earn our trust.
Love however is where trust begins. And David sought to know the loving kindness of God first in order for his soul to trust in God. And when there is trust, obedience becomes much easier. Sometimes obedience to God is not simply exercising brute will and action, but is supposed to be born out of trust in God because we know his love will never leave us and is completely dependable.
Father Lord, let me seek to refresh my knowledge of your loving kindness each morning and throughout the day into the evening. And may trust and obedience in you flow from the knowledge of your love for me.
