It takes years of hard work and commitment to build up one’s reputation but only a foolish moment of error to destroy that reputation.
It can certainly seem cruel and a shame for someone to work so hard toward building trust and faith from others and to lose it all in one day. It is the same with business, politics and relationships.
Yet on the other hand, there are also those who build up their fame and trust with dishonesty and deception. We sometimes read about how they are found it, but i would venture a guess that many get away with their dishonesty too.
The temptation to take the “easier” path is always before us. But Jesus said, “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
In our lives with Christ, there is not only good instruction but there is also forgiveness and second chances with God. Whilst we may never regain the same trust and confidence that is broken from our foolishness, we are told by God that He will forgive us and remove our sins from His sight. Our mistakes are as good as deleted forever before God when we confess them. But if we choose to hide and continue in secret ways before men, God sees everything and will not forgive. And whilst we may be deceiving others and even ourselves, we never deceive God. “For each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work” 1 Corinthians 3:13
Father Lord, may i walk in righteousness before you. Even when no one is looking and even if no one where to know, you are there. I cannot hide anything from you and i do not want to. Let me live with honesty and integrity before you and all.
