Soaring like an eagle

12 April 2014

I really like looking at eagles soar in the air. From where i live, i am fortunate enough to see them quite often. In the morning i see sometimes just a solitary eagle circling around the mountain top and soaring higher and higher.

Isaiah 40:31: “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

The effortless soaring of eagles has been a fascination for many. The eagles use the thermal currents rising from the ground and mountains to lift their wings and seldom have to flap their wings once they are lifted high.  Another interesting fact is also that during storms, instead of finding shelter like other birds, eagles can use the wind in the storm to lift it higher and above and away from the storm.  Many have used this as an example of how we can use the storms of life to rise to greater heights.

Trusting in God might be something like that i suppose. Whether it is a storm or not, the idea is that trusting in God allows us to “rest” from the flapping away in life. The stress of everyday living and planning for the future can take out the joy and life from a person. Worries and anxieties are also an indication of not resting in the comfort and trust of God.

Lord Jesus, when storms and trials do come in my life, i pray that i will have the courage to meet them face on and use it as an opportunity to soar higher with you. Keep me in your perfect peace and help me to trust in you so that i can soar above the storms like the eagle.
