It is common place to plan and think of doing many things but not actually getting round to doing them. I know i have said and talked about things i wanted to do, but never really followed up on them or continued my commitment to certain things i had started.
But we have a role model who did do what he said he would. God’s word is truth and it is also a manifestation of reality. It is written, in John 1: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made…..The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us….”
The words of the bible are sure and true and Jesus also said that: “For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.”
Jesus himself never failed to live up to his word. He never failed to accomplish what he had set out to do and completed everything the Father had given him. One of the examples of our weaknesses is shown in how many people also came to Jesus saying to him that they will follow him where ever he went, but in truth, Jesus showed that they lacked true conviction to follow through with their words. Even Peter disowned Jesus as Jesus predicted he would – and yet moments before, Peter was sincerely telling Jesus he would never forsake him and would die for Jesus.
I try not to make it a habit to say my words lightly or to speak about what i hope to accomplish in Christ without really following through with it. In a way, if we are God’s children, we too must learn to take our words seriously and commit to following up on them once they are spoken. I sometimes fail to do so, but i will always remind myself that this should not be a characteristic of my faith.
Lord, help me to follow through with what i say and my words. I pray that i can be committed and convicted to follow up with what i said i would do, and be a testimony of Christ like character. You gave me your word, and i will learn to hold true to mine.
